Alcudia with family: the top destination for things to do with kids in Mallorca

If you’re looking for things to do with kids in Alcudia, you’ve picked one of the best corners of the Mediterranean for a family holiday. Alcudia isn’t just a tourist destination — it’s a place that feels almost tailor-made for families seeking sun, beach, nature and adventure without the hassle. Northern Mallorca enjoys a privileged microclimate with over 300 sunny days a year, mild temperatures even in spring and autumn, and a sea breeze that makes summer days perfect for outdoor activities. But what truly makes Alcudia with family a unique experience is its natural surroundings. Playa de Alcudia stretches for several kilometres of fine golden sand with shallow waters that let children walk far out without losing their footing. It’s the kind of beach where parents can relax while the little ones play at the water’s edge in complete safety. A little further south, Playa de Muro offers a similar setting but with a wilder, more natural feel: dunes, Mediterranean pines and that sense of being in a Caribbean corner without having left Europe. But Alcudia is much more than its beaches. The walled old town invites you to stroll through cobbled lanes, ice cream shops and traditional markets. S’Albufera Natural Park, just a few minutes by car, lets families discover wetlands, watch birds and connect with nature in an exciting and educational way. And then there’s the sea. That crystal-clear Mediterranean surrounding the Bay of Alcudia, hiding coves, caves and seabeds that are a true adventure playground for the little ones. This is exactly where family boat trips come in: a way to experience the sea that goes far beyond lying on a towel. If you want to discover what kind of experiences await, take a look at all our boat tours from Alcudia. And if you’d like to learn more about everything the bay has to offer, we recommend this complete guide to the Bay of Alcudia and its best maritime experiences.

Why a boat trip is the best family plan in Alcudia

When you travel with kids, you know the best plans aren’t the most complicated ones — they’re the ones that combine fun, comfort and that spark of adventure that keeps them hooked for hours. And few experiences deliver that as well as a family boat trip in Mallorca.

From the moment they step on board, kids switch into explorer mode. The boat becomes their vessel, the sea their territory, and every cove that appears on the horizon is a new discovery. No lugging chairs, parasols or cool boxes. No walking for miles under the sun looking for a decent beach. The boat takes you straight to crystal-clear, shallow coves where kids can swim, snorkel or simply float while parents take it easy.

But there’s something more — something photos don’t capture: a real disconnect. On a boat, there are no screens, no rush, no artificial stimulation. Just the sound of the sea, the breeze on your face and the thrill of sailing together. It’s the kind of experience kids remember years later, far more than any waterpark or shopping centre.

What’s more, the Bay of Alcudia is one of the best spots in Mallorca for family sailing. Its waters are sheltered from heavy swell, the water temperature is ideal from May to October, and the coastline offers a variety of scenery that holds everyone’s interest throughout: sandy beaches, cliffs, islets, caves and posidonia meadows where fish swim between your legs.

And for parents, the advantage is clear: the crew handles everything. All you have to do is enjoy the moment. No logistics to plan, no gear to hire. It’s a complete, safe plan designed for the whole family to have a great time.

Our family boat trips: which option to choose

At Coral Boats we offer different types of excursions designed to match the pace and needs of every family. There isn’t just one way to experience the sea with kids: some families prefer to start early and make the most of the cool hours, others want a full day of adventure, and some are after that magical sunset moment. Here’s a breakdown of the available options so you can pick the one that suits your family best.

1Morning tour: perfect for families with young children

Our morning tour is the most popular choice among families with children under 6. It lasts around 4 hours and takes place during the gentlest part of the day, before the sun gets too strong.

The route includes sailing along Mallorca’s north coast, swimming stops in shallow coves and time for snorkeling and water activities. The crew adapts the pace to the youngest passengers: longer stops, wind-sheltered areas and constant attention.

It’s an ideal option if it’s your first time on a boat with kids, if you prefer to be back in port in time for lunch, or if you want to combine the trip with other afternoon plans.

2Full-day tour: an unhurried adventure for active families

If your family doesn’t want to miss a thing, the full-day tour is the ultimate experience. You’ll sail for several hours, visit more coves, explore more remote areas and enjoy a full day surrounded by sea and nature.

This tour is especially recommended for families with children aged 5-6 and above who already feel comfortable in the water and enjoy water activities. There’s plenty of time to swim, snorkel, try paddle boarding and simply relax on deck.

The advantage of the full day is that there’s no rush. You can spend more time at each stop, explore the coast in depth and enjoy a family day that feels like a mini holiday within your holiday. 3Sunset tour: a magical experience for the whole family

The sunset tour is, without a doubt, the most special option. There’s something hard to put into words about watching the sun sink into the Mediterranean from the deck of a boat while your children point at the colours in the sky and the sea lies perfectly still.

This tour is shorter and more relaxed, designed to enjoy the sailing, the views and the moment. It’s ideal as an end-of-day plan after a beach day, and works brilliantly with children of any age.

The golden sunset light transforms the coast into a cinematic scene. The photos you’ll take home from that moment will probably be the most beautiful of the trip.

4Private charter: your boat, your pace, your family

For families seeking maximum flexibility, a private charter is the premium option. You’ll have the boat entirely to yourselves, with an experienced skipper who adapts the route to your interests and your children’s pace.

Want to spend more time at a cove you’ve fallen in love with? Done. The kids want another round of snorkeling at the same rock? No problem. Prefer to cruise gently without fixed stops? The boat is yours.

It’s the most personalised way to experience the sea as a family, and the one most valued by families who come back to us year after year.

What makes our trips special for children

Not all boat trips are the same, and when you’re travelling with kids, the details make the difference between a good plan and an unforgettable memory. At Coral Boats we’ve been sailing with families for years and we’ve learned that what truly matters isn’t just the destination — it’s how every moment of the journey is experienced. These are the elements that set our family boat trips apart.

1On-board safety designed for families

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. Every boat carries approved life jackets for adults and children in different sizes, first-aid kits and all the safety equipment required by maritime regulations.

But beyond the equipment, what truly puts parents at ease is our crew. They’re experienced professionals, used to sailing with families, who know how to handle every situation calmly and warmly. They know the most sheltered areas of the bay, adjust the sailing speed when young children are on board and are always attentive.

We sail through sheltered areas of the Bay of Alcudia, where the swell is gentle and predictable. This is especially important for families with babies or children who are sailing for the first time.

2Stops in crystal-clear, shallow coves

Swimming stops are the highlight for kids. We carefully select coves with shallow water, sandy bottoms and good visibility, where the little ones can swim, float and play without currents or waves.

Many of these coves are only accessible by boat, which means fewer people, more space and a far more peaceful experience than urban beaches. Spots near Cap des Pinar or the sheltered waters close to Playa de Muro are perfect for families.

If you’d like to know the best coves for children in the area, we recommend this article: Best coves for kids in Mallorca.

3Snorkeling, marine wildlife and activities that hook kids in

Kids don’t just swim — they explore. And our trips are designed to fuel that natural curiosity. Snorkeling is one of the most popular activities among the little ones: seeing colourful fish, posidonia meadows and rocky seabeds teeming with life is an experience that fascinates them.

For younger children who aren’t yet comfortable with snorkeling, the crystal-clear waters of the bay allow them to watch marine life from the surface — straight from the boat or from the shore.

Depending on the tour, kids can also try stand-up paddle boarding (with supervision), jump into the water from the boat, or simply enjoy activities they won’t find at any hotel pool.

A day on a boat with kids in Alcudia: what to expect

Picture this: it’s nine in the morning and the sun is already warming gently over Alcudia’s harbour. The kids have their sunglasses on and the sunscreen is applied. There’s a mix of excitement and nerves in the air — mainly because it’s the little one’s first ever boat trip.

The crew welcomes you with a smile, shows you where everything is and gives a brief rundown of the plan. Life jackets are ready, snorkel gear is laid out and the boat begins to glide smoothly towards the harbour mouth.

For the first few minutes, the kids are glued to the railing, watching the harbour shrink behind them as the coastline begins to change. Cliffs appear, coloured rocks emerge and that transparent water that looks like an endless pool stretches out ahead. The older one already wants to know when they can jump in.

The first stop is a small cove, sheltered from the wind. The water reaches your waist and the sandy bottom is perfectly visible. The kids leap in and within moments are chasing fish with their snorkel masks. The crew points out a school of white seabream darting between the rocks. There are shrieks of excitement.

Back on the boat, you sail a little further. Now the coast turns wilder: sea caves, rock formations that look like sculptures and that feeling of discovering something most tourists never get to see. The kids are mesmerised.

The second stop includes more time to swim, try the paddle board (the older one has a go) and simply float. The parents take the chance to stretch out on the bow, grab a cold drink and savour the silence. No beach bars, no speakers, no crowds. Just sea, sun and family.

On the way back to port, the kids are tired in that good way: tanned, happy and bursting with stories to tell. ‘Dad, I saw a blue fish!’ ‘Mum, can we come back tomorrow?’

That’s the kind of day we offer. It’s not a generic plan or a mass-market tourist attraction. It’s a real, authentic experience designed for families to treasure.

While boat trips are probably the star plan for families in Alcudia, the area offers much more. If you’re spending several days here, these are some other ideas to round off a perfect family holiday.

1Alcudia beaches and Playa de Muro

The bay’s beaches are, in themselves, a perfect plan for any day. Playa de Alcudia has all the amenities a family needs: sun loungers, beach bars, lifeguards and play areas. The water is so shallow that kids can walk dozens of metres out without going under.

Playa de Muro is quieter and more natural. The area known as ‘Es Comú de Muro’ is part of a protected zone, with dunes and pine trees that reach almost to the shoreline. It’s the perfect setting for a family beach day without the crowds of the more touristy areas.

For a complete guide to this beach, we recommend: Complete guide to Playa de Muro.

2Old town, walls and markets of Alcudia

Alcudia’s old town is one of the best preserved on the island. Strolling inside its medieval walls, discovering the cobbled streets and visiting the Church of Sant Jaume is a perfect plan for the hottest hours of the day when the beach is too warm.

On Tuesdays and Sundays the traditional Alcudia market takes place — one of the largest on the island. Fruit, vegetables, local produce, crafts and food stalls that children especially enjoy. It’s a great chance to try freshly baked ensaimadas, Mallorcan cheese and artisan ice cream.

If you’re interested in local markets, you might enjoy this article: Markets and shopping in Puerto de Alcudia.

3S’Albufera Natural Park and the north coast

Just a few kilometres from Alcudia lies S’Albufera Natural Park, the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands. It’s a perfect spot for nature-loving families: flat, accessible paths, bird-watching hides and a biodiversity that surprises adults and children alike.

The visit is free and can easily be combined with a beach day or a boat trip. Kids can learn about Mediterranean ecosystems while walking through reed beds and spotting flamingos, herons and other waterbirds.

Practical tips and lasting memories

To make your boat trip with kids absolutely perfect, here are some practical tips we’ve gathered from years of sailing with families:

What to bring on board:

High-protection sunscreen (minimum SPF 50) and reapply every two hours. The water’s reflection amplifies UV radiation.
Caps, sunglasses and UV shirts for the children. These are essential.
Water shoes or non-slip sandals. Avoid loose flip-flops.
Water and light snacks: fruit, biscuits, nuts. Avoid heavy meals before sailing.
Towels, spare swimsuits and a waterproof bag for your phone.
Your own snorkel masks if the kids have them (we also provide gear).

Recommended ages:

Our tours are suitable for children from babies upwards. For the morning tour, there is no minimum age. For the full day, we recommend ages 4-5 and above.
Children under 2 sail free on most of our tours.

When to book:

In peak season (July–August), we recommend booking at least 3–4 days in advance as spots fill up quickly.
Mornings are usually the most popular time slot for families with young children.

Seasickness:

The Bay of Alcudia is very sheltered and the sea is usually calm. Seasickness is very uncommon on our routes.
If a child is particularly sensitive, we recommend sitting in the middle of the boat and looking at the horizon.

For more information on what to bring, you may find our guide useful: What to bring on a boat tour in Mallorca.

In the end, what you’ll remember from this holiday won’t be the hotel or the restaurant. It will be those moments in the water: the kids’ laughter as they jump off the boat, the look of wonder when they spot their first fish through the snorkel mask, the peace of sailing together as the sun paints the sky orange.

Those are the memories that last. And we’re here to help you create them.
