Parking in Alcudia: The Map You Need to Park Without Drama in Northern Mallorca
The Parking Nightmare in Summer (and How to Avoid It)
You arrive in Alcudia in your rental car full of excitement. The GPS says you've arrived. The sun is shining. The sea awaits. And then the ordeal begins: driving around and around looking for a gap to leave the car without it costing an arm and a leg or getting a ticket. If you've visited Mallorca in high season, you probably already know this feeling. Parking in Alcudia can become a real odyssey if you don't know where to look. And it's no wonder: we're talking about one of the most visited destinations on the island, with thousands of tourists arriving every day by car. But here's the good news: parking in Alcudia doesn't have to be a drama. There are free zones, reasonably priced paid car parks, and tricks that we locals know well. You just need to know where to look. In this article, we're going to give you the complete map of parking in the north of Mallorca. From Port d'Alcudia to Playa de Muro, passing through the Old Town and the lesser-known areas. Free zones, blue zones, private car parks, and above all, the tips that make the difference between parking in five minutes or spending half an hour driving in circles under the August sun. If you're coming by car to explore Alcudia, this is for you.
Understanding the Parking System in Alcudia: Colors and Zones
Before you start looking for parking, it's worth understanding how the system works in Alcudia. As in most tourist municipalities in Mallorca, there are different types of zones marked by colors:
→ Blue Zone (ORA): Regulated paid spaces. They usually operate from 9:00 to 21:00 in summer (shorter hours in winter). You need a ticket from the parking meter visible on the dashboard. The maximum time is usually 2 hours and prices range from €1.20-€2.50/hour depending on the area.
→ Orange Zone: Some streets have this signage indicating special restrictions, such as loading and unloading or residents. Pay close attention to the signs.
→ White Zone: The holy grail. Free spaces with no time limit. They exist, although you have to know where to look for them.
→ Private Car Parks: Several paid car parks managed by private companies. More expensive but they guarantee a space.
An important detail: Alcudia Town Hall does not charge for ORA on Sundays or public holidays in most areas. And outside high season (November-March), many blue zones become free. If you come in spring or autumn, parking is infinitely easier.
Parking in Port d'Alcudia: The Most Demanded Area
Port d'Alcudia is the tourist heart of the area and, therefore, where it's hardest to find parking. But it's also where there are more options if you know where to look. Let's break it down.
1Commercial Dock and Maritime Station Area → FREE
This is probably the best option if you're coming for an activity in the port. In front of the Maritime Station, in the commercial dock area where the ferries to Menorca dock and where the boat excursions depart, there is a large car park that combines free spaces and blue zone.
The spaces closest to the maritime station building are blue zone, but if you walk just 100 meters inland, you will find large free parking areas without any restrictions. This is where we recommend our clients park when they come for our tours.
Bonus: From here you have direct access to the promenade, the port restaurants, and the boarding area. Perfect for leaving the car and forgetting about it for a few hours while you enjoy an excursion through the Bay of Alcudia.
2Promenade and First Line → Blue Zone (Paid)
The entire promenade of Port d'Alcudia, from the Alcudiamar Yacht Club to the end of the restaurant area, has regulated blue zone. These are convenient spaces because you are close to everything, but:
→ Maximum time of 2 hours in most sections
→ Approximate price: €1.80/hour
→ In August, finding a spot is almost a miracle
If you only need to stop for a moment to pick something up or eat quickly, it might work. To spend the day, look for alternatives.
3Inner Streets of the Port → Mixed
Entering the streets behind the promenade (Carrer dels Mariners, Carrer de la Mar, etc.), you will find a mix of blue zone and free spaces. The general rule: the further you move away from the sea, the easier it is to find free parking.
Local trick: The streets perpendicular to the promenade, in their second and third sections from the coast, usually have white spaces. You'll walk 5-7 minutes to the beach, but you'll save on parking and stress.
4BONUS → Official Free Car Park at Port d'Alcudia
This is the port's best-kept secret. There is an official completely free car park located next to the sports area of Port d'Alcudia, just 5 minutes on foot from the promenade and the restaurant zone.
It is a large, paved car park with no time limit. Perfect if you are coming to spend the day at the port, to enjoy a boat trip, or simply to stroll around the area. Unlike the spaces at the commercial pier, this car park rarely fills up even in the height of August.
Our tip: Combine this car park with a walk to the port. You will arrive relaxed, without having driven in circles, and with your car parked for free and safely all day.
Parking at Alcudia Beach and Playa de Muro
The beach area from Port d'Alcudia to Can Picafort is the most extensive on the island and, surprisingly, one of the ones that offers the most free parking options. You just have to know where to go.
1Alcudia Beach (Hotel Zone) → Complicated but Possible
The front line of the beach in the large hotel area has very little public parking. Most space is reserved for guests or loading zones. However, in the streets parallel to the main avenue (Avinguda d'Albufera) you will find spaces.
→ Lago Esperanza Area: Behind the hotels in this area there are residential streets with free parking. You'll walk 10 minutes to the beach, but the walk is pleasant.
→ Bellevue Urbanization: Similar situation. Quiet streets with free spaces about 10-15 minutes walk from the sand.
2Playa de Muro (Es Braç and Natural Areas) → Free Parking Paradise
Here is the real treasure. Playa de Muro, especially in its most natural area known as Es Braç, has large completely free parking areas.
→ Access via the Can Picafort road: Following the Ma-12 from Alcudia towards Can Picafort, you will see several dirt roads leading to parking areas next to the beach. The most famous is Es Braç (in front of the S'Albufera Natural Park).
→ Parking next to the 'English Bridge' (Pont dels Anglesos): Large area, free, and just 2 minutes from one of the most beautiful parts of the beach.
→ Es Comú de Muro Area: Further south, another natural area with extensive free parking.
These areas are less crowded than the Port, have spectacular beaches, and abundant parking. If you come by car and want beach time without the drama, Playa de Muro is your best option.
3Can Picafort → Blue Zone but Reasonable
In the urban center of Can Picafort, the blue zone predominates, but the rates are moderate and the atmosphere is less overwhelming than in Port d'Alcudia. If you prefer a quieter town as a base, Can Picafort is a good option.
→ The promenade area has blue zone (2h maximum)
→ Inner streets, especially towards the market and the residential area, have free spaces
→ In low season, practically everything is free
Parking in Alcudia Old Town
The walled Old Town of Alcudia is one of the must-visit places, but parking inside or nearby can be a challenge. The streets are narrow, many are pedestrianized, and spaces are scarce.
1Outside the Walls → Your Best Option
The smart strategy is to park outside the walled enclosure and walk in. There are several areas that work well:
→ Free car park in front of the walls: Right in front of the walled enclosure there is a free car park that usually has spaces available. If it is full, you can try entering via Carrer Quint Cecili Metel, where there is another free car park just metres away — see location on Google Maps.
→ Poliesportiu Area (Sports Center): Large free car park 5 minutes walk from Porta de Mallorca.
→ Carrer des Moll: East of the Old Town, white spaces in residential streets.
The Old Town is small and can be crossed in 20 minutes, so it doesn't matter which side you enter from. Parking 5-10 minutes from the walls and walking is the best strategy.
2Market Days → Special Attention
On Tuesdays and Sundays there is a market in the Old Town, and the parking chaos multiplies. If you can, avoid coming by car on these days or arrive very early (before 9:00). The Sunday market is especially busy.
Alternative: park in the Port (where there is space) and walk 15-20 minutes to the Old Town. The walk is pleasant and you avoid the stress.
3Other free car parks on the other side of town
If you arrive in Alcudia from the Pollença road or from the north, there are three completely free parking areas on the other side of the Old Town that many visitors overlook. They are just a few minutes' walk from the walls and always have space, even in the height of summer.
These are spacious car parks with no time regulation or blue zone. Perfect for leaving the car and exploring the town at your leisure. The distance to the centre of the Old Town is just 3-5 minutes on foot.
4LOCAL SECRET → Overflow Car Park on Market Days
This is a trick very few people know about. On market days (Tuesdays and Sundays), an overflow dirt car park is opened right next to the Old Town. It is literally 1 minute's walk from the market and there is always plenty of space to park.
While everyone else drives in circles looking for a spot in the nearby streets, you can head straight to this car park and walk into the market stress-free. It is free and has no time limit.
Private Paid Car Parks: When They Are Worth It
If all the above fails or you simply don't want to complicate your life, there are private paid car parks that guarantee a space. They cost more, but sometimes peace of mind is worth the price.
1Port Parking (Next to the Alcudiamar Yacht Club)
It is the best known and most central. It is next to the Alcudiamar Yacht Club, two steps from the promenade and restaurants.
→ Approximate price: €2-€3/hour, daily maximum around €15-€20
→ Monitored and with shade in part of the spaces
→ In August it can fill up starting from midday
It's worth it if you come to spend the day at the port and don't want to worry. For a short visit, try the free alternatives first.
2Hotel and Shopping Center Car Parks
Some large hotels allow non-guests to use their parking for a fee (check at reception). Also, the small shopping center in the hotel zone has parking, although with limited spaces.
These are not usual options for tourists, but if you are desperate, they can get you out of a jam.
Local Tricks for Parking in Alcudia
After years of living and working in Port d'Alcudia, these are the tips we give our friends when they come to visit:
→ Arrive early or late: Parking fills up between 10:00 and 11:00 in summer. If you arrive before 9:30 or after 18:00, you will find a spot without problems.
→ Sundays are your ally: There is no paid blue zone, so all regulated spaces become free. It's the best day to come by car.
→ The second row always has a gap: The front line of any area is full, but it's enough to go one or two streets inland to find a spot. Walking 5 extra minutes is worth it.
→ Use the commercial dock parking: It's large, has free zones, and is exactly where the boat tours and ferries leave. Most tourists don't know about it because they go straight to the promenade.
→ Out of season, everything is easier: From October to May, parking in Alcudia is a piece of cake.
→ Watch out for fines: The local police are quite active in high season. If you leave the car in a blue zone without a ticket or exceed the time, the fine will arrive. It's not worth the risk.
Coming to Our Boat Excursions: Where to Park
If you are coming to enjoy one of our boat excursions through the Bay of Alcudia, we make it easy for you with parking.
Our boarding point is at the Commercial Dock of Port d'Alcudia, in front of the Maritime Station. And right there, as explained before, is one of the best parking areas in the entire port:
→ Free spaces less than 100 meters from the boarding point
→ Blue zone next to the maritime station if you prefer maximum proximity (approx. €2/hour)
→ Large space, without stress or narrow streets
Most of our clients arrive in rental cars from other parts of the island. We recommend arriving about 20 minutes before the boarding time, parking peacefully in the free area of the commercial dock, and walking one minute to our boat.
When we finish the excursion (whether it's the morning tour, the sunset tour, or a private charter), the car will be waiting for you exactly where you left it. No stress, no rush, no fines.
It's one of the advantages of boarding from the commercial dock instead of the promenade: easy and free parking included in the experience.
